A1   Awake Again

Vocal, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar – Neal

Thank God
Music goes
But never leaves
And here I am
Again
Nursing one
With my
Milkless Jonas nipples O!
In the surf
In the sun
Maybe you’ll make it on this one, song

Sweet pea grows
Housefinch sings
A love letter
Love letter
Love letter
Love letter
Love letter

Squirrel sleeps
Newborn baby girl sleeps
In the sun
On her mum
And here we am
Awake again

Recorded by Tobias Berblinger at Singing Sands in Portland OR March 2023

A2   50

Drums, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar, Vocal, Electric Guitar (verses and second chorus), Tambourines, Indian Wedding Bells – Neal
Violin & Viola – Mirabai Peart
Electric Guitar – Dan Elkan
Electric Bass – Ian “Yuck” Lindsay

Can’t leave the car
With 50 on
Looking at the smile of my grandma
Is this the bar tonight?
Well lemme have a look at the dance floor

From inside the waves
I see your perfect face
Seagulls kinda clutter up the place
We’re always out the trunk til the grave

Can’t leave the bar with 50 on
Trying to find myself on the dance floor
Hot springs with a mom
Trying to figure out what I’m here for

From inside the days
I see your perfect face
Snack foods duplicate around the lake
We’re always out the trunk til the grave

A3   Feels Good

Drums, Vocal, Electric Guitar, Bell, Cymbals – Neal

I’d fold an arm over and
Cup a breast while I slept
Found a three-leaf clover
Stuck itself to my chest
Got a big league soda I’ll
Suck on it while you rest
Carve you a sculpture while
Goat lips pull your dress

When feeling more alive
Might go for a drive
Cuz it feels good

When feeling more alive
Imagining your eye
Follow bird
Cross the sky
Cuz it feels good

Possum at daybreak
Looking for a place to be
There’s a snake on the airplane
And I see myself in its ring
Poolside at the Lakers
Dream of you in my seat
Pouring the milk so pretty I
Look for God in the sea

When feeling more alive
Might go for a drive
Cuz it feels good

Violin – Mirabai Peart
Piano chords and figures – Robin Bacior
Piano figure at 1:26 – Akila Fields

And sometimes the ghost turns toward the home
New Bond movie confused me to my soul
She’s got a kid, does that mean she’s a no?

Longhorn statue I’m kissing both the horns
Talked with cave inside a ketamine hole
Drum dreams, girl screams, pretty knees, tangerine

A lifetime of pack work Ned the mule
Heart Ape on a hillside hugging you
Heart Ape
Heart Ape
Heart Ape

Thought I’d turned a corner start kissing both the horns
Sex in Tel Aviv, Oslo, Portland O!
Maybe spend midlife with a midwife, forget my life
Forget my life

And sometimes the goat turns toward the home
New Bond movie confused me to my soul
Heart Ape
Heart Ape

A5   Bald Eagle Bathing

Drums, Vocal, Nylon String Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano, Cymbals – Neal

Plastic toy in the dirt
Smog
Smog in a painting
Of smog sunset peach
In a beach
Say it ain’t so
Say it ain’t so

Baby newt dying
Bald eagle bathing
Bald eagle bathing

Jumped in the maar
Swim to the nurses
Swim to the nurses
There are clogs at my house
Come see
Home!

Drums, Vocal, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar (rhythm, chords) Cymbals, Percussion, High-Hat & Snare, Bucket and Chair Throws, Snare Rake – Neal
Viola, Violin – Mirabai Peart
Electric Guitar (rhythm) – Dan Elkan
Electric Bass – Ian "Yuck" Lindsay
Electric Guitar & Steel String Acoustic Guitar melody at 3:57 – Samwise Carlson

Starting Over
Just walking the ditch now
Just want to catch the light now
Here and there
There and gone
Hear a dog up the hill
Run run deer
Just want to save a life now

It’s all the same
But my scene could be right now

Is she
Gonna
Let the elevator bring her down
Oh no
Let’s Go Crazy*

Are you good to record?
OK
Call in the drummer

In nine months
A year
Maybe three
Starting Over

Painting recovered
Off the shelf
And into your mother
Enter your mother
Inside your mother
Enter your brother

Fall in love
Find a drug
I’ll be around

Paint me this summer
Paint me this summer
Caress my head
Over the sea
Queen in my mouth
Sweat through the blouse
Morning is here
Art reappears
Painting a trustfall
Conceived on an island
Wanting to leave
Who do you see
When you’re looking at me
This queen in my mouth
Drop by the house

Paint me this summer
Paint me this summer
Paint me this summer
Paint me this summer
Paint me this

Viola, Violin, Voice – Mirabai Peart

Pushing eye tooth into thumb
Stare at wall
This rabbit still won’t come when I call
What next?
What next?

Not drumming
Not sex
Not flying dreams
But just a sec
Does my love need me

To feed her sheep in the evening
To pet her horse while he’s drinking
To hold her head while she’s dreaming

What next?
Sit around dumb
Sit around dumb

B8   Bottle

Vocal – Neal
Double Bass – Ian "Yuck" Lindsay
Violin & Viola – Mirabai Peart

Wish there was
A Coke or cream & nectarines
I’d bring you
Uncle Bottle loves to party
Needs a breakthrough
A gull
Crying and crying
Circling alone

“Why so far from the sea?”
A crow barks from the cedar
Eyes on me in a theatre
Come alive daydreaming I’ll see her

B9   Calf Kicks Calf

Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Vocal, Steel String Acoustic Guitar, Percussion – Neal
Viola, Violin – Mirabai Peart

Alone
Old woman lying on a bed
Mountain goat careful on the ledge
Rabbit Dreaming, please don’t leave me yet

Lost but found
River otter looks around
When I want to disappear
You might turn up with small braid in your hair

Two snakes in the sun
Calf kicks calf and runs

Home
Wedding bells ringing in my ears
Took tooth from carcass of a deer
Cuz you might turn up with small braid in your hair

Lost but found
River otter swims around
When I want to disappear
Rabbit Dreaming will keep me here
Rabbit Dreaming will keep me here
Rabbit Dreaming
Rabbit Dreaming

B10   Now

Drums & Vocal – Neal
Electric Guitar – Dan Elkan
Electric Bass – Ian "Yuck" Lindsay

Watching her
In the night
Beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beauty beautiful
Fucking a pillow
Pillow!
Pillow!
Pillow!
No face
One zero one zero one zero one zero

I’ve got
Plans for autumn
Give these albums to my friends
And if Ted’s dead five weeks in Cairo
Da-da-da
Feeling tall

Dreamt you were playing in a band again
Pretty hair growing long again
Drums lead to songs and songs and love
In real life again
Drawing us sleeping in
Put a face
On a head
On a pillow
On a neck
No tats
No shoes
I almost wept

I’ve got
Plans for summer
Diamond Dave dancin in the street
Couchless naked and Blonde!

Wet
Dripping in a speed boat
Watching me how I float
Could die
Now
No, not just now
OK, how bout now?

Heard you rapping round the island
Pond in rain all shimmerin
Raccoon shuffle through floodlight again
Watchin us partyin

With a cake
On the knees
On your body
On the deck
Two tats
No shoes
I never left

B11   Goat Finds Fruit

Voice, Bass, Electric Guitar, Percussion – Neal

Talked last night
Danced this morning
Dreamt we swam something special across the pool
Held it up so it would stay dry

And then Prince driving us in a car with lumber on the roof
Going to fix the library

Bald eagles talking
Donkey eye
Cherry pile in old age
Bear finds fish
And you and you and you and you and you and you and you

And can you see me
All hooves and long teeth and horns
I have these

Can you see me
All hooves long teeth and horns
I have these

Cherry pile in old age
Bird finds fish
Goat finds fruit

Bald eagles talking
Donkey eye
Bear finds fish
Pile of cherries in old age
Goat finds fruit
And you wonder who those horses are
And then you’re riding
And you’re riding
It’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you it’s you

Ski on snow
Dave!
Could guitar help you feel less alone

On it goes
Layin it down
Lot of pain and it stays

There She Goes#
She loves you inside herself
She wants to be next to your hair
O! And that feels like!

On a wave
On your way
God and ——— and no change

And your friends start stealing
Blow holes in the ceiling
Feels so bad inside
Wake me up dawn ride

Is the scene right?
Utah’s wave’s kind?
Is the ———  ———?
Cuz I thought that we might
Near the sealife

Hundred year storm is near
Hundred year storm appears
Hundred year storm is here
And it feels like!

Vocal, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar, Electric Bass – Neal

Brick fight
Pup don’t follow me
Late at night
When I can’t find you

Brake lights along the bay
Shovel fall into a lane
Hear Provider on the lake
Holding it down barely

Goodnight
Come find me
Headlight
Bricks all floating

Sleeping longer than the game
Rabbit chewing on a frame
Dream I heard you moan my name

Holding it down barely
Holding it down barely

Break
Down
The scene
And leave a white little bunny
Hair shaved high upon my leg
So pretty
I don’t care if they don’t grade

D23   Goat On Roof

Vocal, Piano, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar – Neal
Voice – Naropa Sabine

Well, this morning was kind of thick
With the desire for things to be a certain way
And I found myself driving around
And then it was weird cuz I on Facebook for a second
And then, you know, this thing came up which is like suggested friends
This Lea Helene Seydoux?
This French actress, right?

Mhm

Just stunning

Right

Just, like, world class

Right, right

And then I started thinking about this whole thing
I was like OK what are we doing here

Right

Just in terms of the scope of ambition
Or desire
Or art
Or any of it

Yup

And I kind of stopped for a minute
The thing is. . . and you probably have some of this. . .
It's like I feel not capable of anything entirely

Mhm

But that being said
There is good work
There is possibly great work lurking around

Yeah

I remember that feeling of being in my twenties and stuff
And art and music and film are these vehicles to get what you want

Mhm

And I was mulling that over
Cuz then I got away from all that
And I was, like, OK I just do these things because
I love them

One day again
Save the soul again
Love the fishermen
And even huntermen

There was a joke you made
Made the world remade
Goat on roof in rain
Waiting
Waiting
Waiting
Waiting
Waiting for you
Down the hill

Trying hard to try

To get back to nursing
